Privacy Policy & Cookies
What we collect, what we don't, and how to ask us to delete it. Last updated October 2026.
What we collect
Field Traveler collects as little data as possible. Here's the full list:
- Anonymous analytics: we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which guides people read. This data is aggregated and anonymized — we see page views and rough geography, not who you are.
- Newsletter email: only if you subscribe. We use it to send you the newsletter, nothing else.
- Server logs: like every website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) keeps standard server logs — IP addresses, pages requested, timestamps — for security and reliability.
That's it. We don't run accounts, we don't track you across the web, and we don't sell or share your data with anyone.
Cookies
Right now, this site sets no cookies of its own. If you see a cookie banner in the future, it will be because we added analytics or a newsletter service — and the banner will tell you exactly what's being set.
Your rights
If you subscribed to the newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. If you want us to delete any data we hold about you, email [email protected] and we'll do it — no questions, no dark patterns.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll also note it in the newsletter.
Do Not Track and ad blockers
We respect Do Not Track signals and ad-blocker choices. Our analytics setup doesn't try to circumvent them. If you block trackers, parts of the site will still work fine — we don't punish privacy-conscious readers.
Data retention
Analytics data is retained according to Google's default retention settings. Newsletter subscriber emails are kept until you unsubscribe, at which point they're removed from the mailing list. Server logs rotate automatically and aren't kept indefinitely.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect any data we hold: encrypted connections (HTTPS everywhere), minimal access, and no data stored longer than necessary. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep the attack surface small by keeping the data small.
Questions
Privacy questions go to [email protected] with "PRIVACY" in the subject line. We'll answer plainly.
